Bossier Parish, LA Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Section 126-888(f) caps off-premise sign height under Table f, a matrix that layers zoning district, sign size and distance from residential property. In a B-1 district every sign is limited to 15 feet regardless of size; a B-2 district allows a mid-size sign, 72 to 390 square feet, up to 300 square feet, to reach 50 feet, while B-3 and industrial districts allow signs of the same size class up to 60 feet. Distance from residential property adds another ceiling: within 199 feet of residential property no sign over 72 square feet is permitted at any height, from 200 to 599 feet a mid-size sign gains one extra foot of height for every ten feet of added separation beyond 200 feet, and at 600 feet or more the district-based limits apply in full, including the 60-foot cap for large industrial-zoned signs.

A separate row of Table f addresses signs oriented toward a raised expressway that sit at least 600 feet from residential property: those signs may rise to whichever is taller, the height otherwise allowed elsewhere in the table, or 25 feet above the centerline of the expressway itself, recognizing that a sign facing traffic on an elevated roadway needs extra height to clear the roadbed. The code's measurement rule reinforces this: height is measured from the sign's own base or from the shoulder of the adjacent Interstate highway or public street right-of-way, whichever elevation is higher, so a sign next to a raised interstate is measured against the roadway shoulder rather than the ground far below it.

Every off-premise sign, freeway-facing or not, still needs a Sign Location Permit from the Benton Metropolitan Planning Commission under § 126-888(c) before it goes up.
