Gardena permits temporary garage-sale, yard-sale, and moving-sale signs under Gardena Municipal Code Chapter 18.58, but only on the parcel where the sale is held and only from sunrise to sunset on the day of the sale. The garage sale itself must be properly permitted under Chapter 9.52.
Under GMC 18.58.030, residential uses may display temporary signs pertaining to properly permitted garage sales, yard sales, and moving sales in lieu of part or all of their allowable real-estate and noncommercial signage. Two objective limits apply: the sign may be located only on the parcel where the sale is conducted, and it may be displayed only from sunrise to sunset on the day the sale takes place. Signs placed off-site, in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, or left up after the sale are not authorized and are subject to removal. The garage sale must comply with the separate garage-sale permit requirements of GMC Chapter 9.52.
Off-site signs, signs in the right-of-way, or signs displayed outside the sale day may be removed by the city, with removal costs charged to the sign and property owners.
