Lawton, OK Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Before holding a garage sale, called a 'residential sale' under Lawton City Code Article 7-20, a resident must obtain a permit and pay the fee set in Appendix A of the Code. A permit runs for a maximum of three consecutive days (Sec. 7-20-1-2005), and the same premises cannot receive more than one permit in any 30-day period or more than four permits in any 12-month period (Sec. 7-20-1-2007), except when the property changes owners or a deceased owner's estate is being settled. 7-20-1-2008: only one sign or advertising device is allowed per permitted sale, it must be located on the immediate sale premises, it cannot stand more than 200 feet from the actual sale area, and its display surface is capped at 12 square feet on each side. The sale itself, including displayed goods, must stay confined to the permitted premises (Sec. 7-20-1-2009). Court-ordered sales, sales run by public officials, licensed auctioneers, and sales granted a special council waiver are exempt from the article (Sec. 7-20-1-2010). The city's licensing official can revoke or refuse a permit for any code violation or for false statements on the application (Sec. 7-20-1-2006).
