Yuba City Municipal Code §8-5.6305(i) (Article 63) allows up to two garage/yard sale signs per event, each no larger than 5 sq ft and no taller than 6 ft. Signs may go up no more than 24 hours before the sale and must be down within 24 hours after it ends. Off-site signs in the public right-of-way are prohibited.
Under Yuba City Zoning Ordinance §8-5.6305(i), garage/yard sale signs are an exempt category that does not require a planning permit, provided each event is limited to two (2) signs maximum, each no larger than five (5) square feet in area and not exceeding six (6) feet in height. Signs must be located on private property with the property owner's permission. The posting window opens 24 hours before the sale begins and closes 24 hours after the sale concludes. Article 63 expressly prohibits 'snipe signs' attached to utility poles, trees, fences in the right-of-way, or public traffic-control devices. Garage sales themselves are regulated separately under §8-5.5004 (Accessory/Dwelling Uses): no more than three days per event and no more than two events per year per residence. If illegal off-site signs appear in the vicinity, the operator of the sale at the address advertised on the sign is presumed responsible.
First-offense infraction citations typically run $100, $200 second offense, $500 third and subsequent offenses within 12 months (Cal. Gov. Code §36900(b)). Code Enforcement (530-822-4707) may summarily remove off-site or right-of-way signs and bill abatement costs. Repeat violators may have garage-sale privileges suspended.
