Blue Springs, MO Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

The Blue Springs Sign Code (Chapter 501) declares itself content-neutral: Section 501.020(A)(4) bars the City from denying a protected non-commercial message, including political speech, whenever a comparable commercial message would be allowed. Political signs fall under the residential exemptions in Section 501.020(B). On a residential lot with less than 300 linear feet of street frontage, signs conveying a First Amendment message may not exceed a cumulative 60 square feet, must sit at least 10 feet apart when placed within 10 feet of the public right-of-way, and are limited to either one sign up to 8 square feet and 5 feet tall, or any number of signs up to 6 square feet and 3 feet tall each.

On a lot with 300 feet or more of frontage, the cumulative cap rises to 80 square feet, spacing near the right-of-way increases to 25 feet, and the height/size choice becomes one 32-square-foot, 8-foot-tall sign or multiple 8-square-foot, 4-foot-tall signs. Non-residential zoning districts follow a separate 80-square-foot cumulative standard under Section 501.020(B)(6). All exempt signs must still meet the general placement standards of Section 501.040(A) and cannot be prohibited signs under Section 501.110(B).
