Casper, WY Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 17.96.070 treats political signs as a distinct category inside Casper's general sign code. Subsection A limits any political sign to thirty-two square feet. Subsection B bars placement in the public right-of-way of any street, road, or highway without the adjoining property owner's permission, and even with permission the sign can't extend over the curb, gutter, or roadway. Subsection C adds a flat prohibition on medians that physically separate opposing traffic lanes, regardless of permission. Subsection D ties removal to the election calendar rather than a fixed date each year: signs for a candidate or ballot issue that reaches the general election must come down within three days after that election, while signs for a candidate who doesn't advance past the primary must come down within three days after the primary.

Subsection E cross-references the citywide corner-lot sight-triangle rule in Section 17.96.020(D): a political sign on a corner lot within the clear sight triangle, a right triangle drawn seventy-five feet back from the intersection of two rights-of-way, has to keep its top under thirty-three inches or its bottom above ten feet from street grade. Subsection F exempts political signs from the license Section 17.96.060 otherwise requires for signs on city-owned or leased right-of-way, though a license is still required to place a political sign on any other city-owned or leased property.
