Jackson, NJ Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Under Jackson Township Code Section 244-207B(12), political signs are a defined, permit-free category of temporary signage, but they are not unregulated. The Township Council requires every political sign to be placed within 20 feet of, but not less than five feet from, any street right-of-way or property line, so signs cannot crowd the curb or a neighbor's boundary. Section 244-207B(12)(b) bars placement in any street triangle or line-of-sight area, protecting visibility at intersections and driveways for the Jackson Township Police Department and Public Works to enforce.

Political signs also cannot be affixed to trees, fences, fence posts, utility poles, towers, or other signs under 244-207B(12)(c); they must be freestanding or otherwise independently supported. The removal clock starts at the election itself: 244-207B(12)(d) requires all political signs to come down within 30 days after the election, regardless of the outcome. Separately, Section 244-207C(4) lists political signs among the categories exempt from the Township's sign permit and permit fee requirement, so no application or Zoning/Land Use Division review is needed before posting one.

General sign violations under Chapter 244 (Land Use and Development Regulations) are enforced through Section 244-15A, which authorizes a fine of up to $1,000 or up to 90 days' imprisonment, or both, for each day a violation continues, and Code Enforcement or the Construction Official can order noncompliant signs corrected or removed at the owner's expense under the chapter's general maintenance and removal provisions.
