New Rochelle, NY Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 270-7(A) treats campaign signs as a category of temporary sign, defined as signs identifying a condition, situation or event of a known temporary nature. Most temporary signs, including banners, need a permit from the sign Official, but Detached Campaign Signs are specifically excused from that permit requirement as long as they meet the same size and placement rules as any other temporary sign. Section 270-7(B) caps a temporary sign, other than a banner, at three feet in any one dimension and eight square feet in total area; banners get a larger allowance of up to 32 square feet with a four-foot maximum height.

Section 270-7(C) bars a temporary sign from projecting more than four inches from the wall it's mounted on, from extending over a street, alley or sidewalk, and from blocking a door, window or fire escape. While most temporary signs must come down when their authorized period, capped at 60 days, expires under Section 270-7(D), campaign signs follow their own removal clock: Section 270-7(E) requires the property owner to remove a campaign sign within seven days after the election, vote or event to which it relates, rather than waiting for a permit's expiration date.
