Vineland, NJ Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 425-78C's definition separates political signs from the chapter's TEMPORARY SIGN category, which matters because temporary signs are otherwise restricted elsewhere in the chapter; the code instead gives political signs their own standing entry on both the permitted-signs list (Subsection D(11)) and the no-permit-required list (Subsection H(9)). Both list entries carry identical numeric limits: a maximum sign face area of four square feet on residential-zoned property or 32 square feet on business or industrial property, and a maximum number of one sign per candidate or per issue for each street frontage the property has.

Because the size cap runs per candidate or issue rather than as a single flat cap, a property fronting a contested election with several candidates or ballot questions may host more than one political sign at once, so long as each sign supports a different candidate or issue and each stays within the four- or 32-square-foot ceiling. The general applicability clause in § 425-78B still reaches every sign visible from a public street, road or sidewalk, and the chapter's catch-all bars anything not expressly permitted, so a political sign exceeding the stated face area or frontage count falls outside the exemption.

No sign zoning permit application, plot plan or Zoning Officer review is required before installation, unlike most other freestanding or wall signage regulated under the same chapter.
