Bulloch County, GA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Bulloch County Zoning Ordinance § 2204(g) frees window signs from the sign-permit process that otherwise applies under Article 22 in unincorporated Bulloch County. Section 2202 defines a window sign broadly as any writing, picture, symbol or combination attached to, placed upon, or painted on the interior of a door or window, or on the window panes or glass, that is visible from outside. Because the exemption sits inside Section 2204, it comes with the article's general conditions for every exempt sign: the sign must be on property belonging to the person who erects it, or on property whose owner gave permission, and it must still meet every other standard in the ordinance concerning physical placement or dimensions.

The specific numeric limit for window signs is coverage, not size in square feet: a window sign cannot cover more than 50 percent of the area of any window or door pane. A business with several storefront panes may dress each one within that 50-percent ceiling without applying for a permit or paying the sign-permit fee set in the county's fee schedule. The exemption does not excuse a window display from the separate prohibited-sign rules in Section 2205, such as bans on signs using 'Stop,' 'Emergency' or 'Danger' language or emergency colors in a way that mimics traffic-control devices, or on obscene messages.

A window sign that exceeds the 50-percent threshold is treated as a sign requiring a permit under the standard Article 22 process administered by the zoning administrator.
