Coconut Creek, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 13-468.9 of the Coconut Creek sign code sets the window sign standards. Signs are permitted only on the ground floor. The total of all window signs, both temporary and permanent, cannot cover more than 25 percent of the total window area, with two carve-outs: temporary real estate signs under Sec. 13-469.1(b) and an authorized promotional event. Permanent window signs cannot include price information, must use individual letters, logos and graphics professionally created and installed, and cannot exceed 8 inches in letter height. No more than three colors can appear in a permanent window sign, though logos are exempt.

Illumination is tightly restricted. Each storefront gets one illuminated identification sign or one illuminated open sign on the interior side of a window, at a maximum of 3 square feet, and every other illuminated window sign is prohibited. Logo cabinets are allowed if they meet the cabinet sign rules of Sec. 13-460(k).

The code defines a window as an opening covered by a single pane of glass or other translucent material, including a glass door. A window sign is one affixed to the glass or placed within 5 feet inside the window so it is visible and legible from outside. Any such sign above 8 feet over the finished floor is classified as a wall sign and takes the wall sign area allowances instead. For-lease signs follow Sec. 13-469.1(b): an industrial tenant space gets one window sign up to 25 percent of the window area, and a vacant shopfront can use color blocks or patterns over the whole window to screen a vacant or under-construction space, with text and logos limited to 25 percent of the sign. Temporary promotional signs also need a promotional activity permit under Sec. 16-20.
