Miramar, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Under Section 1007 of Miramar's Land Development Code (the permanent-signs chapter of Chapter 10 - Signs), window signs are broken into two categories: identification signs, which may show only the parts of a business name not already on the permitted wall sign, and message signs, which are treated as permanent and may list phone numbers, hours, or the primary goods and services offered. Both categories are then subject to a combined citywide standard: "The maximum area for all window signs on any establishment shall be no larger than 25 percent of the total area of all windows," measured using the smallest rectangle that fully encompasses the letters, logo, and background of each sign.

Only one window sign construction method is allowed at all: professionally made vinyl appliqué letters applied directly to the glass, consisting of individual letters or graphics with no visible background box. Several other display types are folded into the window sign definition and count toward that 25 percent cap even though they are not literally painted on the glass: hanging signs suspended from the ceiling behind the window, and door signs applied to or hanging inside the glass portion of an entrance doorway. Neon signs, or any sign that approximates neon in appearance, are capped separately at one square foot for the entire tenant storefront and must be mounted inside the tenant space rather than in the window itself.
