La Habra, CA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 18.23.090 places window signs in the temporary and interior sign standards table alongside construction signs, real estate signs, banners and portable signs, but window signs carry no permit requirement and no set height or length limit ('Sign Height/Length: Not applicable'). Instead the code controls them by count and coverage. A window up to 50 square feet may carry a maximum of 3 signs; a larger window, up to 100 square feet, may carry up to 5. Every window sign must be mounted on the interior of the window rather than applied outside or projecting into the right-of-way, and across the whole window or door area visible from a public street, right-of-way, or parking lot, the signs together cannot cover more than 33% of that visible area.

There is no separate fee schedule for window signs because no permit or review is required before installation, unlike banners, which need a permit good for no more than three per calendar year, or subdivision signs, which need a temporary sign permit before erection. Because window signs sit outside the sign program and design review process in Section 18.23.060, the 33% coverage cap and the interior-mounting rule are the only design constraints a La Habra retailer needs to satisfy; anything larger, exterior-mounted, or exceeding the 3-to-5 sign count moves into a different sign category and picks up that category's own permit and area rules instead.
