La Habra regulates temporary signs, including garage and yard sale signs, under LHMC Chapter 18.23 (effective January 4, 2024). Such signs may be placed on private property but are prohibited in the public right-of-way and on power poles, sign poles, utility boxes, and other public structures.
Garage sale and yard sale signs are temporary signs governed by LHMC Chapter 18.23, La Habra's sign code updated effective January 4, 2024. Temporary sign standards appear in LHMC Sections 18.23.040 and 18.23.090, with permitted types in the Table 18.23.030.A sign matrix. The clearest citywide rule is placement: advertising, including sale signs, is not permitted on public property or in the public right-of-way, and signs may not be attached to power poles, utility boxes, or other public structures. Sale signs should be posted on the private property hosting the sale, then removed promptly. La Habra also requires a permit for garage and yard sales through Code Enforcement (562-383-4134).
Sale signs placed in the public right-of-way or on utility and sign poles are prohibited and subject to removal by the city, and unpermitted sales may be cited by Code Enforcement.
