The window sign standard sits inside Montebello's general commercial sign chapter, which governs the C-1, C-2, C-M, M-1, and M-2 zones under Section 17.62.100. Subsection (A)(9) treats each window separately: the sign area placed on the glazed portion of any one window cannot exceed twenty-five percent of that window's area, so a larger storefront window allows proportionally more sign area than a small one, but the limit resets window by window rather than applying to the whole facade. Placement is restricted too; a compliant window sign must sit on the interior of the building, inside the window frame, which keeps exterior-mounted decals or paint jobs on the glass itself out of compliance with this specific provision even if they meet the area limit.

This is separate from the chapter's continuous-paper-sign rule, which subjects window space devoted on a continuing basis to paper signs or similar changeable advertisements to the same maximum sign area limits that apply to a site's permanent signs under Section 17.62.110.
