Sanford, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Schedule K, Section 16.0.B of the Sanford Land Development Regulations Sign Code governs attached signs, defined to include wall, window and canopy signs, on buildings in non-residential zoning districts and classifications. Subsection B.1 allows a single-occupant building 1.5 square feet of attached signage per lineal foot of tenant frontage or primary façade length, capped at 150 square feet total, with an additional wall sign of up to 50 square feet permitted over each customer entrance when the façade exceeds 100 linear feet. Multi-tenant buildings under B.2 are held to 1.5 square feet of attached signage per lineal foot of tenant storefront frontage, limited to a single attached sign per tenant.

Within that same subsection, B.3 sets a specific ceiling for window signs: no window sign may exceed 25 percent of the total window surface area on which it is displayed. B.4 pairs that limit with a canopy sign standard, capping canopy signage at one-third of the canopy face measured both horizontally and vertically. Separately, in the City's historic districts, Schedule K, Section 17.0.C.2.h imposes the same 25 percent window-area cap on window signs, along with a rule that window signs must be maintained properly, be painted or decal-only without background coloring, and not obscure window displays.
