Gretna, LA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Gretna Code of Ordinances Chapter 12, Article X (§ 12-416) declares it a nuisance for "solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, itinerant merchants and transient vendors of merchandise" to go "in and upon private residences" when they have not "been requested or invited to do so by the owner or owners, occupant or occupants," for the purpose of soliciting sales orders or peddling and hawking merchandise, if that happens "between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m." The section does not create an opt-in registry of protected addresses; instead it draws a citywide curfew line and treats any uninvited nighttime approach for a sales purpose during those hours as a public nuisance.

Article X sits immediately before the separate Article XI moving-vendor rules and Chapter 14's charitable door-to-door solicitation permit scheme, which restricts daytime soliciting hours between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. and requires a code-enforcement permit for charitable and other door-to-door solicitors; § 12-416 instead covers commercial peddlers and hawkers approaching residences outside that same nine-to-nine window, layering a curfew on top of whatever permit requirement applies to the solicitor's activity.
