Janesville, WI Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Janesville Code of General Ordinances § 12-424 lists prohibited solicitation practices that apply regardless of whether a solicitor is registered. Subsection (1) bars calling at any dwelling or other place between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. except by prior appointment, fixing the City's solicitation curfew. Subsection (2) bars calling at any residential dwelling or other place displaying a sign bearing the words "No Peddlers," "No Solicitors," or words of similar meaning, giving residents a self-enforcing no-knock option without a separate City registry. Subsection (3) separately bars calling at the rear door of any dwelling at any time, and subsection (4) bars remaining on any premises after the owner or occupant asks the solicitor to leave.

The same section bars using sound-amplifying devices audible beyond a 50-foot radius, blocking traffic, damaging property, and making false or misleading statements about the goods, the visit's purpose, or the solicitor's identity. These prohibited-practices rules sit in Article XIV alongside the registration requirements of Section 12-427, but they bind every solicitor, exempt from registration or not, under Section 12-421(3).
