Section 38-345(a) prohibits parking, stopping or leaving standing any large vehicle more than 20 feet in length or registered at more than 12,000 pounds gross vehicle weight for more than two consecutive hours on any street where the adjacent property is residentially zoned, unless the vehicle sits there because of commercial or construction operations happening in the immediate area, or because it is actually being loaded or unloaded. Subsection (b) separately governs mobile recreational equipment, defined to include mobile homes, motor homes, camping trailers, private buses, boats and boat trailers over 20 feet or 8,000 pounds: that equipment cannot sit longer than 24 consecutive hours within a single street address block, though an owner can request a written waiver from the Police Department allowing up to 72 consecutive hours, capped at three waivers per address or per piece of equipment, owner, or operator each calendar year.

A related zoning provision, Section 42-440(a)(8)b.5, exempts medium-duty wrecker tow trucks and flatbeds on the no-preference tow rotation from the weight restriction in residential districts if no towed vehicle is attached, the truck is parked in the driveway clear of the sidewalk and right-of-way, the address of the on-call operator has been provided to the City, and no home occupation is being run from that address.
