Livonia honors No Soliciting signs. A solicitor who ignores a visible No Soliciting sign or verbal refusal commits a municipal civil infraction and can be charged with trespass.
Under the Livonia solicitation ordinance and related trespass laws, a posted No Soliciting or No Trespassing sign at the front entrance, on the door, or on the mailbox creates legal notice that commercial solicitors are not welcome. A solicitor who knocks, rings, or otherwise contacts a residence after seeing such a sign, or after being verbally told to leave, is in violation. First offense is typically a municipal civil infraction referred to the 16th District Court; repeat or aggressive conduct can be charged as trespass under MCL 750.552 and can result in permit revocation. Residents can also opt onto the Livonia Police list of properties designated No Soliciting during permit checks, which is distributed to new permit holders. The city maintains a Do Not Knock registry administered by the Clerk. Political and religious canvassers are bound by the same posted-sign requirement to respect requests to leave, although they are exempt from the permit itself. Complaints can be reported to Livonia Police non-emergency at (734) 466-2470.
