Old Bridge, NJ Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 347-2 of Chapter 347, Peddling and Soliciting, layers a time restriction on top of the license requirement covered elsewhere in the same section. No solicitor, peddler or junk dealer may cause bells to be rung or use a vehicle for the solicitation of business or the attraction of customers in the Township before 10:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m., closing off the early morning and evening hours when door-to-door or vehicle-based solicitation would be most likely to disturb residents. The ordinance carves out one narrow exception: frozen dessert trucks, defined in § 347-1 as vehicles carrying ice cream, water ices or similar frozen confections, can keep operating until sunset even after 9:00 p.m. if sunset falls later.

Food trucks, defined separately as stationary vehicles that cook or package ready-to-eat food, are pulled out of this hours restriction entirely and regulated instead under Chapter 273, Mobile Lunch Wagons. Because § 347-2 does not carry its own fine schedule, a violation of the hours restriction defaults to the Township's general penalty in Chapter 1, Article II, § 1-3: a fine of up to $1,250, up to 90 days of imprisonment or community service, or a combination, with § 1-4 treating each day of continued violation as a separate offense.

A resident who wants solicitors kept off their block during the day rather than just at night still needs a separate mechanism; § 347-2 regulates only the clock, not a per-property no-solicitation registry.
