Littleton, CO Special Events & Permits: Block Party Permits (2026)

Title 3, Chapter 3 of the Littleton City Code governs every block party in the city, defining one at Section 3-3-2 as a festive gathering on a residential street that requires closing the street or part of it for barbecues, picnics, music or games. Anyone hosting one must get a permit from the Coordinator, the Community Development Director or a designee, before the event. Under Section 3-3-4(A), the application must be filed electronically through the city's website at least 20 business days before the date, shorter than the 30-day window for other special events but still enough for the Coordinator to route it to the City Clerk, Finance, Public Works, South Metro Fire Rescue, Police, Community Development and the City Attorney, each of which has 5 business days to comment.

The nonrefundable fee is $75, or $50 if the host is a sales-and-use-tax-exempt organization. If the application proposes closing a public street, Section 3-3-5(B) requires the applicant to mail or email every property owner fronting that street and give them 10 days to raise concerns. The Coordinator can deny the permit on any of the grounds in Section 3-3-6, including a conflicting event already scheduled or a substantial traffic or safety risk, or approve it subject to conditions under Section 3-3-7, which specifically authorizes requiring notice to residents of dwellings along the affected street before a block party can proceed.

A denied or conditioned applicant can appeal in writing to the City Manager's Office within 5 business days. Running a block party without the permit, or violating its conditions, is a misdemeanor under Section 3-3-16.
