Lyon County, NV Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Section 7.05.02(A) of the Lyon County Code makes it unlawful to sponsor, organize or hold a parade or outdoor assemblage that requires closing or interfering with a county road or right of way in unincorporated Lyon County without first securing a parade permit, and section 7.05.01 states the chapter's purpose is to protect public safety and lessen traffic problems. Subsection (B) routes the application through the office of the county manager for temporary occupancy of a Lyon County right of way, and requires a separate permit from the Nevada Department of Transportation if the event will also close a state highway.

Before the county manager will consider the application, the organizer must obtain approval from three agencies: the sheriff's department, the fire district with jurisdiction over the area, and Lyon County public works, road division. Subsection (C) lets the county manager approve the permit, after those three approvals are in hand, once satisfied the event will not be detrimental to health, safety and traffic in the county, and only for the date, time and conditions specified in the application. Subsection (D) makes the applicant responsible for the condition of the roads or rights of way used, requiring them to be left in the same condition as before the event, and makes the applicant liable for any damage caused during it. Subsection (E) sets the penalty for violating the chapter at whatever section 1.04.01, the code's general penalty provision, prescribes.
