Piscataway, NJ Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Township Code § 3-32, added December 16, 2025 by Ordinance No. 2025-28, defines a 'large gathering' as any event, party or assembly on public or private property expected to attract 100 or more people at one time, and makes the person, group or entity initiating, planning or hosting it the 'organizer' responsible for the permit. Section 3-32.3 requires the application at least 14 days before the event, describing security, traffic control, parking, trash and recyclables disposal, restroom facilities and anticipated attendance, and bars a permit to anyone with outstanding zoning, construction or fire code violations against the property.

Section 3-32.5 fixes hours: gatherings, apart from setup and teardown, must run no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and no later than 10:00 p.m. the same day, and the site and parking area must close as soon as possible afterward. Under § 3-32.7, the Police Department can require extra-duty officers or on-site EMS for traffic and crowd control, billed to the organizer under the Township's adopted fee schedule, and the organizer stays responsible for keeping order; failing to control disorderly conduct can get the permit revoked mid-event.

Section 3-32.4 exempts Township- and Board of Education-sponsored events, religious observances, protests and political rallies with 24 hours' police notice, recurring annual events under an existing Township agreement, and venues that regularly host weddings or banquets as normal business, provided zoning and safety codes are otherwise met.
