Piscataway, NJ Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Piscataway Township Code § 12-1.2, last amended by Ordinance No. 2025-28, makes a Parks and Recreation use permit mandatory 'When there are more than 12 participants and/or spectators in attendance,' when temporary equipment such as soccer goals or field lining is installed, when the space is used for a purpose other than its intended one, for organized games (defined by referees, leagues, uniforms, entry fees, prizes, invited spectators, or 10-plus regulars), for business-sponsored uses, or when a group wants exclusive reservation of the facility. Section 12-1.3 spells out the application: written submission to the Department of Parks and Recreation naming the applicant, sponsor, dates, hours, location, activity type, expected attendance and age group, plus a Certificate of Insurance naming the Township as additional insured and loss payee with at least $1,000,000 in general liability, bodily injury and property damage coverage, and 15 days' advance notice before the policy can be cancelled.

Permit holders under § 12-1.4 get exclusive use of the reserved space for the stated period and can require unpermitted persons to leave. The Director of Parks and Recreation may refuse or revoke a permit under § 12-1.5 for a prior violation or a material misrepresentation on the application. Qualified nonprofits can get a one-time exemption under § 12-1.3.d at the discretion of the Business Administrator, Township Clerk, or Recreation Director.
