Gretna, LA Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Reservations for any shelter or other facility in a Gretna recreation area are governed by Sec. 42-32. An application must be filed at least five working days before the requested date, and once booked, the reservation is held only until 10:00 a.m. on the day of the event. Cancellations require at least 24 hours' notice before the scheduled event, except that a reservation for a Sunday or Monday must be cancelled by the preceding Friday. No tickets, invitations, or publicity for the event may go out until the director of parks and recreation, or a designee, formally approves the application.

The administration separately sets rental fees for public parks and facilities under Sec. 42-30, with a standard rate for nonresidents and a discounted rate for city residents recognizing the recreation millage city taxpayers already pay. A cleanup deposit under Sec. 42-33 applies on top of any rental fee: $50.00 per shelter or pavilion for a group of ten or more people, or for any smaller group planning to consume seafood, refundable within ten working days if the facility is left in acceptable condition. Facilities must be left clean and orderly, with trash placed in receptacles or carried out by the group. A commercial recreation permit under Sec. 42-31, free of charge but requiring indemnity and hold-harmless paperwork, is a separate requirement for anyone running a fee-based class or activity, such as yoga or boot camp, in a recreation area; failing to get that permit is punishable under Sec. 1-8 and can be grounds to deny the permit application.
