Huntington, NY Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Section 159-31 of the Recreational Facilities chapter requires a permit from the Director for any group, league or organization that wants recreation or park facilities for picnics, gatherings, league sports, exhibitions, meetings or special events, with three permit types: Special Event Permits, Athletic Field Permits covering up to a twenty-week season, and Picnic Permits. Permit fees are set by the Town Board. Completed applications must be filed at least thirty days before the event, with all other required documents filed no later than fifteen days before, on forms from the Department of Parks and Recreation; missing the deadline can mean denial or a late fee.

Applicants must pay an application fee and, for special events, post a damage and cleanup deposit fixed by the Director, refundable if no damage occurs and all costs are reimbursed, with the permit holder liable for costs exceeding the deposit. Except for picnics, no permit issues until the applicant provides a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Huntington, the Town Board and the Board of Trustees as additional insureds, with minimum coverage of one million dollars per person and two million dollars per occurrence for bodily injury and one million dollars per occurrence for property damage, plus a signed hold harmless agreement approved by the Town Attorney.

A community-based organization that cannot afford this insurance may seek a reduction or waiver from the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Town's Risk Management Consultant and the Deputy Town Attorney, though the waiver never applies to the hold-harmless requirement.
