Full Breakdown

County Code § 17.04.455 requires a permit from the Director of Parks and Recreation before holding an event at a County park that involves an organized gathering of 25 or more people at local/community parks (50 or more at regional parks), a wedding or ceremonial event, temporary structures over 10 by 10 feet, amplified sound, alcohol, cooking, generators, animals, or a commercial/sporting event. Applications go through the Department's reservation office; the Director can set filing deadlines and impose content-neutral conditions on time, place, manner, security, and insurance. Permits are decided on a first-come, first-served basis and issuance can be denied for scheduling conflicts, incompatible use, or unpaid prior debts.

Violations & Fines

Holding a covered event without a permit, or violating permit terms, allows removal from the park by a peace officer, code enforcement officer, Sheriff, or the Director; the permit can also be suspended, terminated, or revoked and all fees/deposits forfeited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit for a small family picnic?
No: gatherings under 25 people at local/community parks (50 at regional parks) with no tents, alcohol, or amplified sound don't trigger the permit requirement.
Can the County deny my park event permit?
Yes, if the site is already booked, the activity conflicts with park purpose, or you have unpaid debts from a prior County event permit.
