Perth Amboy, NJ Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Two permit tracks in Chapter 343, Public Entertainment and Special Permits, cover gatherings in the parks of the City of Perth Amboy. Article II, Special Events Permits, adopted June 13, 2012 as Ord. No. 1643-2012, covers any public or private event on public property that is not public entertainment, and § 343-17(A)(1) states that use of public parks for any special event requires a permit. Applications are filed in the Office of the Business Administrator and approved by the Business Administrator at least 60 days before the event, with a $25 nonrefundable administrative processing fee (§ 343-16). Events can be applied for up to one year ahead, and special events are limited to one per day, first come, first served (§ 343-15(C)). At the Business Administrator's discretion, a $2,000 restoration bond and an insurance certificate naming the City as additional insured are required. Park fees for recreation events are the fees adopted under Ordinance No. 1522-2010, and a nonprofit pays a flat $50, with personnel, equipment and cleaning fees still applying.

A gathering held to sell or exhibit foods, goods or services, or to hold performances such as festivals and concerts, is public entertainment and needs an Article I permit instead. On city-owned property those permits are limited by § 343-5(A) to Bayview Park, Rudyk Park, Sadowski Park and Sadowski Parkway between Madison Avenue and High Street, Caledonia Park, and the other sites listed there. Park hours under § 343-6(A) are 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on holidays falling on other days, and 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays. Article I applications go to the City Clerk at least 90 days ahead with a $100 nonrefundable fee (§ 343-3), and § 343-9 requires $1,000,000 in general liability insurance naming the City. Security minimums under § 343-10 are four off-duty police officers at Rudyk Park and six at Sadowski Park and Sadowski Parkway.
