San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department issues special event permits for events in city parks. Events with 100+ attendees require a Special Event Application submitted at least 60 days in advance. Park hours are 5 AM-11 PM unless a special events permit grants after-hours access.
The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department manages special event permitting for all city parks and park facilities. Standard park hours are 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM per Chapter 22 of the Code of Ordinances. Events requiring use of a park outside standard hours need written approval from the Parks and Recreation Director through a special events permit. Events expecting 100 or more attendees must submit a Special Event Application at least 60 days in advance. The application process includes coordination with SAPD, Fire Department, SAMHD (for food vendors), and Public Works (for road closures). Event insurance (minimum $1 million general liability naming the City as additional insured) is required. The Department develops written guidelines including limitations on types of uses, noise limitations, maintenance requirements, and other conditions. Vendors at park events must obtain separate food permits through SAMHD. Amplified sound in parks must comply with Chapter 21 noise ordinance decibel limits. Alcohol at park events requires a TABC permit and Parks Department approval.
Using a park after hours without a permit: fine up to $500. Violating permit conditions may result in permit revocation and forfeiture of the security deposit.
