Summary

Reserving a West Jordan city park, pavilion, or recreational facility requires a reservation or permit approved by the city administrator under City Code section 8-13-3. Standard requests need 24 hours' notice on weekdays or a full week for weekend dates, and can be filed up to 11 months out. Special events, seasonal reservations, and tournaments follow separate deadlines and city-council-set fees.

A. Permitted: City parks, recreational facilities, concession stands, and areas therein, may be reserved in accordance with this chapter and applicable city rules, policies and procedures. Tot lots, traveled ways, sidewalks and restrooms may not be reserved. Limited space within parking lots may be reserved if expressly specified in a reservation or permit approved or issued by the city administrator or designee. B. Reservation Procedure: 1. General: The city administrator or designee will receive, and approve or deny, reservation requests. Reservation requests must be made and paid at least twenty four (24) hours prior and weekend reservation must be made and paid in full at least one week prior to the time and date of the reservation but no more than eleven (11) months prior to the time and date of the reservation; except for special events, seasonal reservations and athletic tournaments, as set forth below.

Full Breakdown

West Jordan lets the public reserve city parks, pavilions, athletic fields, and recreational facilities under City Code section 8-13-3, but not every space qualifies: tot lots, traveled ways, sidewalks, and restrooms can never be reserved, and only a specifically listed portion of a parking lot may be, and only if the reservation or permit says so. The city administrator or a designee receives and approves or denies every request. A standard reservation must be made and paid at least 24 hours ahead of time, while a weekend reservation needs a full week's advance payment, and no request may be filed more than 11 months before the date.

on the last business day in November, with schedules posted by the last business day in March. Gatherings that draw 200 or more attendees, need added city services, are athletic tournaments, involve inflatables, or charge admission qualify as a 'special event' under section 8-13-1 and must instead be scheduled through the city administrator's special event permit rules under (B)(3). Cancellations get tiered refunds under (B)(5): 100 percent back if canceled 90 or more days ahead, 50 percent between 89 and 30 days, and 25 percent between 30 days and 24 hours; nothing is refunded inside 24 hours, and seasonal or tournament reservations are never refundable.

Rental fees and deposits are set by city council resolution under section 8-13-5, with the deposit covering damage, cleanup, city staff overtime, or permit-modification costs.

Violations & Fines

Using a West Jordan park, pavilion, or recreational facility without an approved reservation, or occupying a reserved area outside your permitted time, violates section 8-13-3 and section 8-13-2(E)'s entry prohibition. Because chapter 8-13 sets no separate fine, a violation defaults to a class B misdemeanor under section 1-14B-1, and the city administrator may also withhold part of your deposit for noncompliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far ahead can I reserve a West Jordan park pavilion?
Up to 11 months before your event date, and no later than 24 hours ahead for a weekday reservation or a full week ahead, paid in full, for a weekend date. The city administrator or a designee reviews and approves or denies every request under section 8-13-3(B)(1).
What counts as a 'special event' needing its own permit?
Under section 8-13-1, a gathering is a special event, requiring the city administrator's special event permit process instead of a standard reservation, if it expects 200 or more attendees, needs extra city services, is an athletic tournament, includes inflatables, or charges an admission or participation fee.
Will I get my money back if I cancel my reservation?
Refund amount follows a fixed schedule under section 8-13-3(B)(5): a written cancellation 90 or more days out gets a full refund, 89 to 30 days out gets half back, and 30 days to 24 hours out gets a quarter back. Cancellations inside 24 hours, and all seasonal or tournament reservations, are not refunded.
