Irvington, NJ Special Events & Permits: Street Fair Rules (2026)

Section 324-41, "Special permits: fees," governs any food truck, trailer or itinerant merchant that wants to sell at a privately organized special event, party, fair or festival in Irvington. Instead of the standard annual license under §§ 324-30 through 324-38, the vendor can apply to the Division of Licensing for a special permit good for one to three days, subject to the Township Business Administrator's approval, for a $50 fee. The application must be filed at least two weeks before the event; late applications, filed less than two weeks out, may still be accepted up to the day of the event at the Business Administrator's discretion, but the Township can charge a late fee up to double the standard $50.

No food vehicle may operate at the event without the Business Administrator's approval. Section 324-42 carves out a separate track for events the Township itself organizes or sponsors: a vendor at a Township-organized special event still needs a permit good for one to three days, filed at least two weeks ahead with the same discretion for late applications, but § 324-42 does not carry the $50 fee or the doubled late-fee language that applies to privately run fairs and festivals under § 324-41. Either way, the vendor remains bound by the article's sidewalk, siting and hours rules; a special-event permit does not waive § 324-39's proximity buffers or § 324-40's school and bus-stop setbacks.
