As of January 1, 2026, the City of Smyrna has adopted the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) with Georgia Amendments. Pool barriers must be at least 4 feet in height with a self-closing, self-latching gate. Gate latch mechanisms must be placed at least 54 inches from the ground, opening outward away from the pool. Fence openings must not allow a 4-inch sphere to pass through. Ground clearance at the bottom of the fence must not exceed 4 inches (2 inches on loose material such as gravel or mulch). Permit required for all new pool construction through the Building Division.
Non-compliant pool barriers may result in stop-work orders and citations.
