Galt requires a building permit for any pool or spa over 18 inches deep. Plans cover structure, plumbing, electrical, and HSC 115922 safety features. Multiple inspections are required.
Galt Building Division administers pool permits under California Building Code, California Plumbing Code, and California Electrical Code as adopted locally. In-ground pools require structural engineering for shell design, excavation, and rebar. Above-ground pools over 24 inches also require permits. Gas and electric bonding must be done by licensed contractors. Inspections include pre-gunite, plumbing rough, electrical bonding, final safety features, and final. Setbacks are governed by zoning code, typically 5 feet from side and rear property lines with additional 10-foot setbacks from septic systems. All pools built or significantly remodeled after January 1, 2018 must comply with Health and Safety Code 115922 requiring two drowning prevention safety features. Permit fees are based on valuation.
Unpermitted pool construction: stop-work order, double permit fees, possible removal, zoning abatement, and retroactive safety inspections.
