Bradenton, FL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Two sections of Chapter 58 of the Bradenton Code of Ordinances govern the can itself and where it sits.

Section 58-35 sets the container standard. Every garbage container must be made of metal or plastics, equipped with suitable handles and a tightfitting cover, and be watertight. The capacity cap is not more than 30 gallons, and the container must be of such weight that it can be handled by one man, as the code prints it. A cart larger than 30 gallons does not meet the printed capacity limit.

Section 58-38 sets placement and timing. Each resident, tenant, owner or occupant of any building or house trailer within the city must deposit all garbage, rubbish and trash accumulating at the premises in containers of the type the article requires. The containers are placed at an accessible location at the rear of the premises, or at another location the city approves. The occupant must have the containers ready for removal at the times the city designates. The code prints no clock time for set-out, so the times come from the city's designation and from the regulations the director of public works may adopt under section 58-3 on days of collection and the location of refuse containers.

Rubbish and trash containers follow a separate rule in section 58-37: they must be of a type and content required by regulations of the city. Section 58-36 requires at least one garbage can for every lot or premises with an active water or sewer account, unless the city determines a different number.

The code does not print a screening or curb-placement rule for residential cans in Chapter 58. Its default is the rear of the premises, which is why a can left at the front of a house needs city approval of that location.
