Bradenton, FL Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Chapter 58 of the Bradenton Code of Ordinances puts residential collection in the hands of the city itself. Section 58-31 requires the city to collect at least twice each week all garbage deposited by residents, tenants, owners or occupants as the article requires, and to haul it to the place provided for the city sanitary department. The only stated excuse is uncontrollable circumstances. Rubbish and trash, including yard trash, follow a looser rule: the city collects them in the same manner as often as it deems necessary.

The code does not print a weekday for any street. Section 58-3 hands that to the director of public works, who has the power to make regulations concerning the days of collection, the type and location of refuse containers, and other matters the director finds necessary, and to change them after the notice the city council requires. Those regulations cannot be contrary to Chapter 58.

Service is tied to the utility account. Section 58-36 requires at least one garbage can for every lot or other premises with an active water or sewer account, unless the city determines otherwise. The city can decide a lot does not need collection, or that it needs more than one can, and the resident, tenant, owner or occupant then provides the determined number.

Payment follows the same path. Under section 58-61 residents, tenants, owners and occupants pay the sums set by resolution of the city council and on file in the city clerk's office. Section 58-63 charges the fees by calendar month, bills them with the water and sewer bill, and does not allow them to be paid separately once billed. A full month is charged for any fraction of a month in which service is rendered, and a late bill carries an additional charge set by the city council. Under section 58-62 a person with no water or sewer account makes a deposit treated like a water meter deposit and is billed monthly.
