The Bradenton Land Use Regulations handle dumpsters as accessory structures, and the rule depends on the building they serve. For residential buildings, section 5.1.2.4 says garbage can enclosures, dumpsters and dumpster enclosures may be accessory to multi-family buildings only, provided they are screened with fencing. The list of accessory structures for one- and two-family houses names garbage can enclosures but names dumpsters only for multi-family buildings, and section 5.1.1 separately says trash cans may be stored outside a house but not in the front yard.

For non-residential buildings, section 5.2.2.7 lists dumpsters and garbage can enclosures as accessory structures provided they are screened from view by a solid fence with landscaping. Schedule 5.2.1.1 repeats the point in its storage row: no storage or display shall be outside except as otherwise allowed and except for dumpsters which are enclosed and screened.

Because dumpsters sit in the lists of accessory structures, the placement standards for those structures follow. On non-residential property, accessory structures shall not be located in the required front setback except as otherwise allowed and shall maintain a 10-foot setback from any property line, except in a UC/UCBD zoning district, where no setback is required.
