Davis, CA Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

050(a) of the Davis Municipal Code sets the placement and timing rules for individually serviced residences. Carts for gray container waste, green container organic waste, dark blue container waste and light blue recyclables must be placed in the street gutter immediately adjacent to the curb and immediately adjacent to the generator's property, and in no event on the sidewalk. The public works director can permit carts to be placed on top of the curb instead, but only where that placement will not block the sidewalk, violate accessibility requirements, or block a bike lane, and that permit is revocable at any time.

Where a container is collected from somewhere other than curbside, that location cannot be more than seventy-five feet from the street. 040(c) separately guarantees at least one receptacle per dwelling unit except where the city allows shared communal bins in a multifamily property or under a permitted sharing or self-haul arrangement.
