Davis, CA Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

090 of the Davis Municipal Code governs yard waste that is not put in the green container. Subsection (a) requires yard waste to be containerized in the green container unless it qualifies for the street-pile program, and bars inorganic material such as rock, dirt, gravel, concrete or sod from the street or the green container without a scheduled special pickup. Subsection (b) authorizes piles adjacent to the originating property that do not exceed five feet in width, height or length and that do not block gutter drainage.

Only leaves and tree or shrub prunings with a maximum branch diameter of eight inches may go in a pile if the green container is full; grass clippings, weeds, vines and dropped fruit must be containerized instead. on the scheduled collection day and can never sit in a bicycle lane, block a fire hydrant, alley, driveway, sidewalk, curb cut or storm drain inlet, or sit on a traffic-calming bulb-out. Several named streets, including East 8th Street from B to J Street, 5th Street from A to L Street, the Downtown Core, and The Cannery development, are restricted areas where yard waste must stay containerized year-round.

Subsection (c) fixes the pickup calendar effective September 30, 2019: ten every-other-week pickups beginning the third Monday in October, one spring pickup the week of the first Monday in May, and special pickups on seven days' notice, with the city manager able to adjust the schedule if at least ten fall pickups and one May pickup remain and customers get thirty days' notice.
