Recology Davis is the exclusive franchise hauler for the City of Davis under DMC 32.01.030. Trash, recycling and organics collection is mandatory and picked up weekly. Recology acquired long-time hauler Davis Waste Removal in 2018.
Per DMC 32.01.030, the city's franchise waste hauler, Recology Davis, is the only business permitted to haul trash, recycling and organic waste in Davis; the franchise also covers street sweeping and tipping fees. Service is mandatory for all residential and commercial properties under DMC 32.01.020. Curbside trash, recycling and organics carts are each collected once a week. Recology Davis took over from Davis Waste Removal (DWR), the city's hauler since 1972, after acquiring its assets and the city and Yolo County contracts in 2018; DWR is no longer active. Collection begins at 7:00 a.m. Self-haulers must still keep recyclables and organics out of the landfill. Reach Recology at 530-756-4646.
Hauling trash, recycling or organics with any company other than Recology violates the exclusive franchise under DMC 32.01.030. Failing to subscribe to mandatory service violates DMC 32.01.020 and is enforced by the city and hauler
