Village Code Section 464-4 sets the timing window: containers used for collection service can be set at the curbside no sooner than the evening prior to the regular collection day, and every container has to come back off the curbside collection point within 24 hours after the regular collection time. Section 464-7 then governs where containers sit the rest of the week, directing that collection containers be set out exactly as instructed by the Village or the hauling contractor's representative, and that between collections they be kept in as inconspicuous a place as is reasonably possible on the property, functioning as the Village's screening standard even though it does not specify a structure or fence.

The same section places an affirmative duty on the owner, tenant or occupant to keep a clear means of travel to and from the containers year-round, explicitly including winter months, so a snow-blocked path to the can is itself a code issue. All of this sits under the collection and disposal program the Village Board supervises through the Administrator of Public Works per Section 464-2, and the Village or its contractor can add further placement rules through its service contract. Containers themselves must also be kept in good repair: a defective can with ragged or sharp edges that could injure a collector must be replaced immediately, and the Village or its contractor may confiscate one that is not replaced.
