Rothschild, WI Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 464-19 places yard waste alongside lead-acid batteries, major appliances, waste tires, oil-absorbent materials, electronic devices and waste oil as a material every occupant must manage for disposal in a specific way; for yard waste specifically, Subsection D requires it to be deposited at the designated Rothschild Compost Site rather than set at the curb with regular trash or recyclables, and it is separately listed as a noncollectible material under Section 464-9. Section 464-26 closes an obvious loophole for a river-adjacent village bordered by towns: it is unlawful to bring recyclables, yard waste, or solid waste into Rothschild for collection or drop-off from outside the Village's corporate limits, and commercial lawn care providers are barred outright from using the Village Compost Site regardless of where the material originated.

For residents who keep their own pile rather than hauling to the Compost Site, Section 437-5, in the Property Maintenance chapter, sets the standard: compost piles and yard waste holding bins are permitted only in the rear yard, at least 10 feet from any habitable structure, and must be maintained so they do not produce an odor, a nuisance, or rodent harborage. Together the three sections cover the full cycle for a homeowner: where to take clippings and brush, who is allowed to use the Compost Site, and how a backyard pile has to be sited and kept if you compost on your own property instead.
