Rothschild, WI Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 464-16 tells occupants of single-family and two-to-four-unit residences, multiple-family dwellings, and nonresidential properties exactly what has to come out of the regular trash: lead acid batteries, major appliances, waste oil, yard waste, aluminum containers, bimetal containers, corrugated paper or other container board, foam polystyrene packaging, glass containers, magazines, newspaper, office paper, rigid plastic containers made of PETE, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS or other resins, steel containers, waste tires, oil-absorbent materials and oil filters, and electronic devices. The program exists under Section 464-11 to promote recycling, composting and resource recovery as required by Wisconsin's recycling law, and it is administered day to day by the Administrator of Public Works under Village Board supervision per Section 464-14.

Materials have to be kept clean and separated from food or product residue, oil, grease, and other contaminants, and protected from wind and rain while awaiting pickup, per Section 464-18. Multi-family and nonresidential property owners carry extra duties under Sections 464-22 and 464-23: they must provide separate recycling containers, notify tenants in writing at move-in and at least twice a year about the program, and arrange for delivery of separated material to a recycling facility. The Village or its contractor can leave or reject improperly prepared material under Section 464-21, and disposing of any separated recyclable in a landfill or burning it is a distinct violation under Section 464-24.
