Union City residents place gray, blue, and green carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on collection day, no earlier than sunset the prior evening, with at least two feet between carts and wheels against the curb.
City service guidelines and UCMC §7.04.040 govern where and when carts go out. Place the gray (35-gal landfill), blue (64-gal recycle), and green (96-gal compost) carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day. Carts may not be set out earlier than sunset the day before collection (§7.04.040). Leave at least two feet between each cart and any obstacle, face carts toward the street with wheels against the curb, keep lids fully closed, and do not overload. Keep carts out of bike lanes and the public right-of-way where possible. After service, carts must be returned to storage before midnight (§7.04.040) and otherwise kept out of long-term public view to avoid a nuisance under Chapter 7.16.
Setting carts out too early or leaving them at the curb past midnight violates UCMC §7.04.040. Carts chronically left in public view, or overloaded with open lids, may be cited as a nuisance under Chapter 7.16.
