Walnut Creek residents must use Republic Services-issued carts only. Standard sizes are 20, 32, 64, and 96 gallons for garbage; 64 or 96 gallon for recycling and organics. Overfilled carts (lid not fully closed) and contaminated loads are subject to non-collection and fees.
Under WCMC Β§5-8.208, only Republic Services-supplied carts may be used for curbside collection. Residents select garbage cart size at service start β smaller carts reduce monthly rates under Pay-As-You-Throw pricing. Recycling and organics cart sizes are standardized at 64 or 96 gallons at no additional charge. Carts must have lids fully closed; overfilled, overweight (over 200 lbs for 96-gallon), or hot-loaded carts may be refused with a tag explaining the issue. Extra garbage beyond cart capacity requires purchase of Republic Services overflow stickers ($8-12 per bag) affixed to standard 33-gallon bags. Lost, stolen, or damaged carts are replaced free for normal wear; replacement fees apply for negligent damage. Carts remain Republic Services property and must be returned upon service termination. Placing prohibited items (batteries, electronics, hazardous waste, medical sharps) in any cart triggers a contamination fee starting at $50 and possible non-collection. HOAs with enclosure requirements must screen carts from public view between collection days.
