Warren, MI Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Sec. 16-3(a) tells residents where to place their containers: between curb and sidewalk where possible at the side of the public right-of-way fronting their premises, in the manner the article specifies and on the dates the director of public service publishes. Sec. 16-3(b) then locks down the timing on both ends. of the calendar day prior to the residents scheduled pick-up day. On the back end, subsection (g) requires that once the container has been emptied, the resident must remove it from the curb or street and put it back in the owner's storage area as soon as possible, but in no case later than ten hours after collection.

Together the two rules keep bins off the public right-of-way, and out of sight, for all but roughly a day-long window around the actual pickup. The city also lets owners of condominium complexes that don't meet city street specifications request curbside service in writing from the director of public service, waiving city liability for any damage to substandard streets, under Sec. 16-6(e); commercial waste of any kind is not collected by the department of public service at all under Sec. 16-6(f).
