Warren, MI Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Sec. 16-3(a) creates the legal basis for Warren's trash and recycling service: there is hereby established within the city a program (curbside program) for the separate collection of municipal solid waste compostables and recyclable materials from all residents of the City. Rather than write specific pickup days into the code, the ordinance delegates that scheduling authority to the director of public service, who sets the manner and on the schedule for collections and publishes them to define the area and dates of collection and the material designated for recycling.

That means Warren's actual weekly pickup day can vary by neighborhood and can change administratively without a new ordinance, but every resident in a serviced area is legally bound to follow whatever schedule the department publishes for their address. The mandatory nature of the program matters because Sec. 16-4(d) lets the city or any authorized hauler refuse collection from anyone who doesn't source-separate as required, and Sec. 16-6 gives the director of public service authority to order removal of solid waste left out of compliance, with the cost charged back to the property owner's tax bill if unpaid after 60 days.

Commercial properties, defined to include industrial, office, medical, and commercial businesses, are excluded entirely from city collection under Sec. 16-6(f) and must arrange private hauling.
