Clifton, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 261-15, part of the mandatory recycling program in Chapter 261, Article IV, spells out how bulky and yard items reach the curb. Under subsection B(12), white goods (refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, boilers, water heaters, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners) must be placed at the curb the night before pickup, with all doors removed from freezers and refrigerators, and freon certified removed by a technician for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers; the City will not collect these appliances without proof the freon was removed under the federal Clean Air Act.

Subsection B(7) has residents rake leaves to the curb for pickup from on or about October 15 until December 20, on the schedule the Superintendent of Public Works sets, and subsection B(14) lets residents who trim or cut their own trees place yard and tree material at the curb for City collection, also Superintendent-directed.
