Clifton, NJ Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Chapter 233, Article IV of the Clifton Code defines yard waste as leaves and grass clippings, and defines containerized waste as material placed in a trash can, bucket, bag or other vessel that keeps it from spilling into the street and reaching stormwater (§ 233-22). Sweeping, raking, blowing or otherwise placing uncontainerized yard waste at the curb or along the street is allowed only during the seven days before a scheduled and announced collection, and the pile can never sit closer than ten feet to any storm drain inlet; placing it at any other time or in any other manner is a violation, and the responsible party must remove it from the street or be deemed in violation (§ 233-23).

Article V separately restates the prohibition for property owners, occupants, and their landscaping contractors or employees: they may not sweep, rake, blow or place uncontainerized yard waste in the street at all, and again must remove any waste they place there or face a violation (§ 233-27). The Police Department, Health Department and Department of Public Works enforce both articles (§§ 233-24, 233-28).
