Idaho Falls removes large items such as water heaters, stoves, dishwashers, sofas, and mattresses by appointment through the Sanitation Division. Brush must be bundled (no longer than 4 feet, under 40 pounds). The City does not auto-collect appliances or construction debris (City Code 8-6-15).
Idaho Falls handles bulky waste through scheduled, by-appointment service rather than automatic curbside pickup. The Sanitation Division removes large items including water heaters, stoves, dishwashers, sofas, box springs, and mattresses, but residents must call to schedule the pickup. For yard waste, brush and small tree limbs are accepted when tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet and not exceeding 40 pounds; the City explicitly instructs residents not to put brush in their waste carts. City Code Section 8-6-12 allows grass, leaves, weeds, and clippings no longer than four feet (4') to be placed in cardboard cartons, bushel baskets, boxes, or strong plastic garbage sacks that are securely closed, and the City will collect such non-standard containers if they do not exceed fifty (50) pounds in weight. Section 8-6-15 confirms the City has no duty to automatically remove appliances (white goods), large or heavy machines, tree trunks, or construction/demolition debris that are not placed in a proper container, which is why those items go through scheduled service. Some items carry disposal fees: tires and Freon-containing items (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners) require fees at the county transfer station. The landfill and transfer station are operated by Bonneville County (208-528-5550, ext. 3), so residents self-hauling large volumes or restricted items use the county facility. Discarded Christmas trees are accepted seasonally and turned into free mulch.
Bulk items set out without scheduling, or brush/yard bags exceeding size and weight limits, may not be collected (8-6-12, 8-6-15). Brush bundles must be 4 feet or shorter and under 40 pounds; call the Sanitation Division to schedule large-item pickup.
